The Global Investment Research Challenge is a three-tier competition:

CFA Society Investment Research Challenge
In the first stage of the Global Investment Research Challenge, each student team demonstrates the rigorous process of analyzing a publicly traded company, writing a sell side research report, and presentating a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold ownership in the company to an expert panel of judges. The initial stage is organized at the local CFA Society level and is comprised of at least four distinct university teams and some are comprised of as many as 25 teams. Local champions win the opportunity to travel and compete in the Americas Regional Investment Research Challenge being held in New York City on 17-18 March 2010.
Americas Regional Investment Research Challenge
Local society challenges produce one regional finalist for the Americas IRC. The competition will begin with a kick off and networking opportunity the evening prior to the competition. On competition day, teams will be randomly distributed into semi-final competitions whereby each will produce the finalists for the Americas Challenge. The top five teams emerging out of the semi-finals will compete for a chance to match their abilities against the winning teams from the Americas, Asia Pacific, EMEA, and New York Regional Investment Research Challenges advance to the third and final level of competition being held in Hong Kong on 16-17 April 2010.
Global Investment Research Challenge
Four finalists out of nearly 400 university teams of three to five students each will converge to vie for the Global IRC title in Hong Kong on 16-17 April 2010. The winning team's university will be granted US$10,000 for the accomplishment.
